MONTHLY PHOENIX RISING YOGA CLASSES
We are offering a monthly Phoenix Rising Yoga class on the first Wednesday of every month from 6:00 - 7:15pm. Phoenix Rising Yoga is a way to use your yoga practice to cultivate an even deeper awareness of yourself and your Life. Each class will have a specific theme/focus and through questions and instruction of yoga postures, you will be led to experience each theme and how it relates to your Life. These classes can be taken off of your regular Yoga class card. Come and experience what Phoenix Rising Yoga is all about! NOTE: BECAUSE OF ASH WEDNESDAY, THE MARCH CLASS WILL BE THE SECOND WEDNESDAY (MARCH 12). THE THEME FOR THE CLASS IS ACCEPTANCE...AND PLANTING A SEED FOR THE APRIL 2 CLASS, THE THEME IS CHOICE. MONTHLY JOURNEY DANCE YOGA CLASS
JourneyDance™ is a balanced blend of gently guided movements and free expression practiced to the eclectic beat of inspiring world music. Join Denise VanBriggle as she facilitates an energetic journey through music, movement, and laughter. The class is held monthly on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00 - 11:30am. The cost is $12 per class. Denise says, "After experiencing my first JourneyDance at a yoga studio in New York City in November of 2011, I immediately knew I wanted to bring this modality and all of its gifts to as many people as possible. When I dance, I feel simultaneously grounded yet airy; safely held yet free. Nothing brings me more joy than helping others feel the same, and I look forward to dancing with you soon! APRIL - THE FOURTH CHAKRA YOGA CLASS - Sunday, April 6
A Chakra is an energy center which helps to regulate our physical, mental and emotional systems. There are seven main Chakras and on the first Sunday of each month from 2:00 - 3:30pm we are offering a Yoga Class that focuses on one of these seven Chakras. The Fourth Chakra Yoga Class will be on Sunday, April 6 from 2:00 - 3:30pm. Your fourth chakra is all about your ability to give and receive love (not only to others, but also to yourself)...not a chakra to be missed! The class is Phoenix Rising inspired and includes yoga postures, pranayama (breathing practices), theme-based questions and meditation having to do with each Chakra. The cost for each class is $20. This is a drop in class so please feel free to come to any of the classes as you are able. The remaining class dates are: Sunday, May 4 - Fifth Chakra (Speaking up for yourself, speaking your truth, communication, expressing your creativity); Sunday, June 8 - Sixth Chakra (Personal identity, over-thinking/over-analyzing, intuition); Sunday, June 29 - Seventh Chakra (Assimilation of knowledge, development of wisdom, connection to God). MAKE THE CONNECTION is a specialized 6 week Phoenix Rising Yoga class for people who want to take a closer look at themselves. The premise is that although we often look for outside sources to guide us and help us make decisions, ultimately we are our own best source of guidance. It's a matter of slowing down, reconnecting with ourselves, and listening to ourselves. This group provides the opportunity to do just that. It uses yoga, breathing practices, meditation and group support as a way to gain deeper insight and awareness into yourself and whatever life situations (challenging or not) you may currently be experiencing. In addition, it teaches you practical strategies to manage the stress and challenges in your life. The yoga and meditation taught in the group are more about what you are experiencing than doing it the "right way". This is why no previous yoga experience is necessary in order to benefit from this group. Each week has a specific theme/focus and each week builds on the previous weeks. Group support is used as a way for each person to speak, if they choose to, about their experience in order to make it more powerful. No advice is given. Homework is used as a way to integrate the skills you are learning into your daily Life. Past participants have included people dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, grief, and weight issues, as well as people who just wanted to slow down and take some time for themselves. The cost is $180 for the whole series which includes all 6 classes, one All Day Meditation Retreat, a CD and class manual with homework and techniques which are used during the class and which can be continued long after the class is over. Early bird cost of $150 if paid by Friday, April 11. Or if you have taken the class before pay the graduate rate of $130. THE SCIENCE OF MEDITATION - Thursday morning, April 24
What exactly is meditation? Come and learn the yogic perspective as we demystify it and make it practical. We will take a systematic look at your mind, what is involved in meditation and strategies/practices which facilitate a deeper meditation practice. Strategies will include breathing practices, relaxation training and mind focusing exercises. It will be held on Thursday morning, April 24 from 9:30 - 12:00 noon. The cost is $25. CHILDREN'S YOGA WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 26
Come play yoga! Children will improve their strength, flexibility, and body awareness through fun and challenging poses, yoga games, art andd music. We will also explore breathing and visualization techniques to help children focus, center and relax. There are two options:
1. 10 - 11AM - FAMILY YOGA - Ages 5+ (Parent/family member participation strongly encouraged) $12
2. 11:30 - 12:15PM - MINI YOGIS - Ages 2-4 (Parent participation required) $12
The classes will be taught by Colleen Wisor. Colleen received her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Columbia University and was trained in Children's Yoga at Karma Kid's Yoga in New York City. This will be a yoga journey that your children never forget!
